I’m always ready to try new things – so today, when I noticed a droopy branch on my huge aloe vera plant, I saw it as a great opportunity to use the aloe gel in a homemade facial scrub. Because I love the polished feel of my skin after scrubbing it with baking soda, I decided to combine the two – 1 tsp aloe gel, and 1 tsp baking soda.
So, I cleansed my face, and then dried it off a bit, and mixed the aloe and baking soda together before scrubbing my entire face and neck (avoiding the eyes) for a few minutes. I rinsed it off with lukewarm water, and then decided to take exfoliation one step further, by applying fresh lime-juice to my face and neck using a cotton ball (again, avoiding the eyes). WARNING – lime juice stings a little if applied immediately after a scrub – who knew? I let that sit for 20 minutes, and then rinsed it off with lukewarm water and applied my nighttime moisturizer as usual.
Lime juice – contains vitamin C, an antioxidant, and citric acid, a natural exfoliate. Gives smoother skin, refines pores, and can help fade age spots.
Baking soda – great for exfoliation; also good against acne
Aloe gel – anti-inflammatory, healing properties, moisturizing, promotes increased cell turnover, stimulates circulation
